The GTA 6 delay was “inevitable” for quite some time based on conversations Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier had with several Rockstar Games developers. Rockstar Games‘ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has telling investors and the rest of the world even recently it was still on target for Fall 2025.
However, developers have been feeling different for many months now. We’ll be taking a look at what they said including a good side effect of the delay.
If you have been following GTA VI news closely, you’ll know Jason has had a tremendous track record when it comes to reporting on GTA VI and other games. Over the past few years, the journalist shared accurate information about the game just ahead of the record-breaking reveal trailer in 2023. This included when the trailer would come out. Prior to that, he correctly reported the game would feature a man and woman as the protagonists. Plus that the game would be set in Vice City.
It Was Always Going To Happen
The journalist took to Bluesky after Rockstar announced the game’s delay to share some insights. In his social media post, he said that everyone he spoke to at Rockstar did not think Fall 2025 was achievable for “a very long time”.The reason for this is that there is simply “too much work” and “not enough time”.
The feeling is that GTA VI moving to 2026 was going to happen at some point “for months if not longer”. Jason even said back in January he did not believe GTA VI was coming out this year and that a delay to 2026 is most likely. At this point, almost no one is surprised.

The Good News
In the same post on Bluesky, Schreier revealed that Rockstar’s management have a “real desire to avoid brutal crunch”. This is something Rockstar had been exposed of in the past during the development of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Ex-staff who worked on those games described working conditions as horrific. These reports exposing Rockstar’s inner workings and treatment of staff was harmful to the company but has led to positive change for the workers.
Through reports over the last few years we have come to find out how working at Rockstar is much better than before. Sure, it is not perfect and they have had more recent issues, but a lot less crunch is a great thing.
Jason Schreier shared an update on crunch via Bluesky. He says that since Red Dead Redemption 2’s release in 2018 everyone he has spoken to says it is night and day now. Overtime has not been completely gotten rid of but it is much better than before.
